Beach Mice – Pier Park Free Summer Concert – Thursday Night
The Beach Mice is Northwest Florida’s newest beach band – Named after the endangered species of beach mouse native to the beach from Panama City, Florida to Gulf Shores, Alabama. ( ooh.. the things those poor mice have seen…) The band is a three to five piece band – fronted by Jacob Mohr and Dave DeMonki. The Beach Mice play a mostly acoustic mix of older beach faves and contemporary pop songs. Three part vocal harmonies, solid original material, and the occasional violin/fiddle tune give this group a niche in Destin – an area full of talent and well-respected musicians. After a last minute cancellation by The Donnie Sundal Project, Blueground Undergrass stepped in and did not disappoint. The music was great, unleashing on the packed out pier park amphitheater oldies, new hits and a range of music no one could have expected. King Cotton… King Cotton will be performing this Thursday, July 23rd at Pier Park’s Summer Concert Series. Here’s a taste In 1996, King Cotton was formed in Tallahassee, Fla., by the nucleus of vocalist Tony Young, bassist Todd Bevis and drummer Tom Corbett. During the early years, the band experimented with a couple of different guitarists and even a keyboard player. But the band’s goal has always been to take traditional blues and put a modern spin on it. In December 1997, King Cotton recorded and released its debut CD “10′ Tall,” at Possum Tracks Sound Studio in Sopchoppy, Fla. – the “second home” of Tom T. Hall. Kicking off this week, the Bay Point Billfish Invitational Fishing Tournament is back and with it, the Weighed Blue Marlin category returns as the most popular category of the tournament for both anglers and spectators alike. With more than 10,000 spectators expected, vendors everywhere and boats everywhere, this year will truly be a year to remember.
