It’s been said of Johnny Rawl’s blues, “You can’t re-invent the wheel but you can still make top of the line tires.” Johnny no more invented the blues than Cadillac invented the car, but when you hear it live, you will think he was the inspiration for it all. Equal parts Southern, soulful blues and dazzling showmanship, the Johnny Rawl’s live show in arguably the purest blues in America.

Johnny has appeared on the cover of the April 2002 Living Blues Magazine and has been nominated four times for the W.C. Handy Award. His most recent award came from the West Coast Blues Hall of Fame for RB Male Vocalist of the Year 2006.

Johnny has performed at the Chicago Blues Festival twice, The Russian River Blues Festival, The King Biscuit Blues Festival, The Portland Waterfront Blues Festival, Poconos, as well as festivals in Sweden and Poland. He tours constantly, playing well over 200 dates a year. He can also be heard on XM radio’s Bluesville. Whether he is playing in a small club or a large blues festival, Johnny gives it his all and the crowds love him!

5.Pineapple Willy’s Pier Bar Blues Concerts

Performing live this weekend at Pineapple Willy’s Pier Bar, two amazing blues bands, the Reverend Peyton’s Big Damn Band and The Nouveaux Honkies.

Reverend Peyton’s Big Damn Band crosses the barriers between indie rock/punk rock kids, scenesters, and traditional blues fans. At a BDB show, one is likely to get a taste of a myriad of genres fraternizing under one immensely eclectic umbrella. Frequent touring has allowed the Reverend’s band to perfect their bluesy show, giving showgoers a full-on experience they’ll be talking about for years.

The Nouveaux Honkies is not your typical blues band. They are musical mayhem concealed by a smooth delivery. They are tattoos under an evening dress. They are a bandwagoned sound what will leave you cheering and speechless at the same time.

For more information and show times, check out www.willyspierbar.com

Whether you are swimming, surfing or fishing in the Gulf of Mexico, jet skiing and spotting dolphins in the bay, or perhaps even catching a birds-eye view from your parasail, a water-sports adventure should be at the very top of any Panama City Beach vacation itinerary or local “to do” list.

With over sixty locations across the beach, Adventures at Sea is one of Northwest Florida’s leading water-sport companies. The experienced and friendly staff are on hand to answer any questions you may have, show you the ropes, and to ensure you get the most out of your chosen activity. There’s something for everyone, whether you are looking for an adrenaline rush, a fun family day on the water, or a relaxing sail with someone special. Check out all the ways you can make a splash with Adventures at Sea.

Pontoon Boat Rental

A pontoon boat is the most popular way to explore the water in Panama City Beach for many reasons. Pontoon boats are easy to operate, seat up to 12 people, and provide a safe and smooth ride. Pile the whole family in, plus a picnic lunch and maybe even the dog for an unforgettable day together. Or set sail ‘a deux’ for a romantic escape from the ordinary. Although your pontoon boat cannot be taken into the Gulf of Mexico, some of Panama City Beach’s most beautiful and scenic areas can be found in the Bay around Shell Island and St. Andrew’s State Park. It’s easy to find a quiet spot to drop anchor and kick back, or to cruise all day exploring the many canals, lagoons and waterways. If you are a fan of dolphins then you are in for a treat – Panama City Beach is home to one of the world’s largest concentrations of bottle-nosed dolphins so it’s almost impossible not to spot these amazing creatures. If you choose to rent a pontoon boat, you will not only be shown how to operate it, but will also be given a map and helpful hints about where to go and what to look for.

Parasail Rides

A parasail ride is the experience of a lifetime, and a way to see Panama City Beach from a whole new level! This is definitely a must on any itinerary, and something you will never forget. Glide smoothly through the air and absorb the views, which are nothing short of breathtaking. There are waterproof cameras available at all the parasail ticketing huts located along the beach, so you can capture the moment and get some amazing shots of the ocean and beach below. The Adventures at Sea staff will take care of everything, so all you have to do is enjoy the experience. All parasail boat captains are United Sates coastguard licensed, and the equipment is all state-of-the-art. You will take off easily from the back of the boat, and after your flight the crew will reel you back in. You can even choose whether or not you would like to be dipped into the ocean. Your safety and comfort is priority, and the staff will go out of their way to make sure you are relaxed and having a great time.

Jet Ski Rentals

Another exciting way to cruise the sparkling emerald green waters of Panama City Beach is to opt for a jet ski. This is a great choice for those seeking a faster paced adventure, as there are no speed restrictions and you can make as many twists and turns as you can handle! Of course, it’s not all about the speed – a jet ski is a wonderful way to slowly meander the coastline and bays, watch for dolphins and enjoy a sense of freedom. The staff at Adventures at Sea will thoroughly explain everything to you before you head out on your top-of-the-line vehicle, which is both easy to operate and safe. The jet skis are Yamaha VX-110’s, equipped with 140hp, a 4 cycle engine, digital instruments and a spacious front storage area. Up to 3 passengers can ride the vehicle at one time, and life jackets are provided. Jet ski rentals can be found at one of the many Adventures at Sea ticket booths behind the condos and hotels across Panama City Beach, or at the main office at the Adventures at Sea Marina on Thomas Drive.

Wave Runner Tours

If you like the idea of getting out on a jet ski but would rather go with a guide, then this is the option for you. An experienced guide will know exactly where to go, to include Shell Island, St Andrew’s State Park and Grand Lagoon, stopping frequently to spot dolphins and other marine life and make sure no-one is falling behind. If you do spot a dolphin, feel free to hop off the jet ski and jump in the water for a private ‘swim with a dolphin’ experience! With a wave runner tour, you can still go at your own pace, but you also have the benefit of the guide, who can show you the best spots to explore and will be on hand if you have any questions. This is a great choice for an inexperienced jet skier or a first time visitor to Panama City Beach.

Banana Boat Rides

A banana boat ride is a thrilling way to enjoy the beauty of the Gulf of Mexico. This is a fantastic option for families or groups of friends, as the banana boat can accommodate up to six people per trip and is an amazing experience. You’re going to get wet, but you’ll love every minute of it! The banana boat picks up at most Adventures at Sea locations along the beach, and the staff will help you in and make sure everybody has a lifejacket. A jet ski tows the inflatable banana boat along the shore, zooming across the waves and providing riders with an exciting, splashing good time.

Other Services

Adventures at Sea are not only the leaders when it comes to wave runners, parasails and pontoon boats, but they also provide many other ways to enjoy the water. There are sailboat rides and guided boat cruises available for those who are looking to head out to Shell Island and relax, charter fishing for up to 20 people, and even beach lounge chairs for those days on the sand where all you want to do is kick back in the sun with a good book. All Adventures at Sea services can be found either at the Marina on Thomas Drive opposite Captain Anderson’s restaurant, or behind one of the beach’s numerous hotels or condominiums. Rates are reasonable, be sure to check the official website for discounts and coupons, and for frequently asked questions. What are you waiting for? You’ve always wanted to soar on a parasail or zip through the waves on a jet ski – it’s time to make that dream a reality, and there’s nowhere better than Panama City Beach to do so.

Adventures at Sea is located at 5711 North Lagoon Drive, Panama City Beach. Call (850) 235 0009 for more details.

Some people may sneer at this pick. But name another place in a hundred miles where you can watch the game, eat good food, bowl a lane and then destroy your friend in a Dance-Dance Revolution showdown. That’s right. Rockit Lanes has it all. In fact, we chose Rockit Lanes because watching the big game should be a family affair. Rockit Lanes keeps everyone happy with loads of fun from billiards to roller skating. Basically, Rockit Lanes is just good fun. And who doesn’t love good fun?

Try: The Philly Cheesesteak. But don’t bowl afterwards. There’s nothing worse than a greasy-fingered gutterball.

4.
If you were to break out the iPhone Urbanspoon application and type in “good food, good sports and under $10,” you’d come up with Time Out and you’d be very happy. We love Time Out for many reasons; one being that Time Out has a section dedicated to Eagles Fans, but mostly because the people and the service. The people at Time Out know sports. In fact, you could have your own personal commentary with stats by any bartender or waitress. That’s no joke. You won’t find a single person in the bar that doesn’t have a take on the games not matter the sport and not be willing to prove to you why they are right. But be warned; don’t bring weak stats. You’ll just be embarrassed.

Try: The nachos. They’re really beefy, really cheesy and really, really tasty.

3.
This family oriented Irish sports pub, makes watching the game a true family experience. With 20 inch flat panels at each table and big screens hung on the walls throughout, you won’t miss a single play. And, if you have your kids with you and they aren’t too into sports, (like that’s even possible) bring your DVD case because you have your own personal DVD player accompanying the 20 inch flat panel at your table. The seemingly unlimited menu may very well be the best part with loads of delicious choices all under $15.00. And did we mention the free Pay Per View. You don’t miss at thing at Beef’s. More on Beef’s click here.

Why Buffalo Wild Wings you ask? Simple. 360 degrees of HDTV. For some men, that sounds about one Victoria Secret Model short of absolute heaven. Buffalo Wild Wings in PCB’s Pier Park is the ultimate family sports bar. It has all the games, wall to wall memorabilia and a great atmosphere. Basically you walk in, sit down, order a cold one and 18 mango-habanero wings and go sports crazy. Isn’t that what watching the big game is all about?

Try: To eat as many wings as humanly possible.

The number one place to watch all the sports you can handle is Pineapple Willy’s and Pineapple Willy’s Pier Bar. This place rocks, literally. Inside the restaurant you’ve got 8 foot projections on every wall, sound boxes at every table and a simultaneous view of game and beach. At the bar you’ve got HDTVs at every possible viewing angle and when the games all over, you can enjoy live music. The food is world famous. Go ahead and try a bucket of ribs and see if it doesn’t change the way you look at ribs forever. They even have better pizza than most places on the beach. What more could you ask for? Oh, how about Fat Tuesday drinks? That’s check and mate. P. Willy’s wins.

Try: Not to grab a blanket and move in. Yeah, it’s that awesome

Hoping to find something that will keep the whole family happy and entertained? Gulf World Marine Park should be top of your list. This first-class marine park is one of Panama City Beach’s top attractions, and promises to deliver a fun-filled day of animal antics and discovery. First time visitors will be thrilled at the variety of species that call Gulf World home, and if you’ve been before, you’ll have the opportunity to once again see your favorite marine friends in action. Located on the west end of Front Beach Road, Gulf World Marine Park is a must for any Panama City Beach itinerary.

Dolphins

The dolphins are a huge part of what makes Gulf World so special. You will instantly fall in love with these beautiful and friendly creatures and be amazed by their flips, twists and leaps. Trainers work side by side with the dolphins to produce an action-packed show you won’t ever forget. There are plenty of opportunities for guest interaction too, both in the show, and as part of the ‘Swim with a Dolphin’ program. Guests participating in this program will firstly get to learn all about dolphin conservation, and then enjoy a dorsal fin pull around the dolphin habitat, a dolphin kiss, a dolphin handshake and much more!

California Sea Lions

The California sea lions will keep the crowd entertained from start to finish. There are non-stop laughs all the way as these incredible creatures interact with their audience, mimic their trainers and show off their many talents. You’ll love their cheeky antics and hilarious facial expressions, and one lucky guest will even have the opportunity to get a kiss from the star of the show!

Other Cool Exhibits

The dolphins and sea lions may steal the show, but there are many other exciting animals to check out and enjoy. The stingray pool offers visitors the opportunity to pet these fascinating creatures, plus there’s penguins, sea turtles, iguanas, flamingos, and even sharks, all waiting to say hello. Ever seen a cockatoo on roller skates? The parrot show in the Tropical Garden Theater will blow you away as you see stunts such as a parrot on a bicycle and a macaw that plays basketball. These lively feathered friends will put on a show the likes of which you’ve never seen! The reptile show consists of snakes, alligators, and lizards, tarantulas and toads all of which have a starring role in this production. A reptile expert will take you on an educational journey around the exhibit, with plenty of opportunities for guest interaction. Snake around the neck, anyone?

The Park Itself

Gulf World Marine Park provides visitors with a full day of family fun and education. During the summer season, there’s even a breathtaking show by the All American High Dive team plus ‘The Magic of Noah Wells’ magic show, both included in the price of your admission. Once you have purchased your ticket, your Gulf World experience is up to you! All shows have several performances throughout the day, so go at your own pace and make your own itinerary. Hungry? Choose from pizza, burgers, grilled chicken, hot dogs, ice-cream, candy and more at the Gulf World Grille and the Snack Bar. In the evening, there’s even a Tiki Bar where you can grab a drink and recollect the adventures of the day. A large gift shop provides a really cool collection of gifts and souvenirs at reasonable prices.

General admission tickets are $24.00 for adults, $15.00 for children ages 5 to 1 years old, and free for children under 4 years old. Swim with a Dolphin and Trainer for a Day programs are available at an additional cost. Gulf World Marine Park opens at 9:00 am and closes at 7:30 pm during peak season (end of May – early September) ad 5:30 pm on Sundays through peak season, and throughout the off-season.

With more than 10,000 spectators expected, vendors everywhere and boats everywhere, this year will truly be a year to remember.

If you’re looking to see world class yachts, huge fish and have a great time, this is the place to be this week and weekend.

The tournament has already kicked off Wednesday with a special trip for two combat-wounded U.S. service members for the second annual Soldier Salute. According to a press release today:

U.S. Army Staff Sergeant Deane Messex and Sergeant Philip Gonzales were joined by local Bay Point resident and retired Army officer Dean Resch for a day of fishing in the Gulf on the 74’ Viking Game On courtesy of Galati Yacht Sales and the Washington, DC based Freedom Alliance.

The highlight of the fishing trip was when SSG Messex landed a 62.9-pound cobia! In the evening, the soldiers and their families enjoyed dining on their catch but the best part for the soldiers was knowing that their service and sacrifice is appreciated by grateful Americans.74-foot Viking Game One with veterans aboard.

Yachts have been arriving since yesterday for registration today with the official tournament kick-off to fire off tonight at 10 pm by the ceremonial Flare Gun start at the mouth of St. Andrews Pass.

In the most anticipated concert of the Pier Park Summer Concert Series, Porter Batiste Stoltz, or PBS, will be unleashing their New Orleans marinated brand of funk/rock/jam on all of Panama City Beach. If you’ve missed the concerts before, this is one you definitely want to see.

More on PBS

“Their time has come at last. After spending years, even decades, providing some of the greatest backline support New Orleans music has heard, the brilliant sidemen George Porter Jr., Russell Batiste Jr., and Brian Stoltz, (Porter Batiste Stoltz) are ready for their close-up. “It’s now time to focus all of our efforts on this, right here, right now,” says Porter Jr. “This is where we want to be. We might be walking away from some decent projects but we believe in this and in each other.”

Everyone else who hears Porter Batiste Stoltz believes, too, which is why the prospect of a new album from the group is reason to get excited. There’s no denying the trio’s pedigree, and their chops are miles wide and oceans deep. Porter is the original bass player for the Meters, a group that virtually defined New Orleans rockin’ funk, while Batiste and Stoltz joined Porter in the latter day incarnation of that band, the Funky Meters.

“We all come from old school New Orleans,” says Stoltz. “I grew up listening to the Beatles and Hendrix, but we still have that deep New Orleans background.”

A few years ago, when Funky Meter Art Neville opted to go back to the band bearing his family’s name, Porter Batiste Stoltz saw opportunity, not disappointment. Rather than continue on with the measured but explosive Meter-like grooves, Porter Batiste Stoltz decided to explore a little, to tinker with the foundation of their funky sound.

The result of that tinkering was a debut album, the aptly titled Expanding the Funkin’ Universe (2005). “The stuff we do together can only happen with the three of us,” says Batiste. “We have a deep respect for the groove. We sound like Porter Batiste Stoltz and only Porter Batiste Stoltz, that’s what’s so special about this band.”

All the tracks on the new album begin with a great idea, and improve from there. “It’s more like a funk rock kind of thing with a strong pocket,” says Porter, “a bass line that connects with the drummer and allows for the rhythm stuff and the lead chords to do whatever.”

The rhythms are inimitable, as only first-call New Orleans players can lay down. But they’re also real songs. Stoltz, who has a songwriting background, adds greater dimension to the PBS collaborations, casting the melodies of classy pop and rock into the rawness of great R&B. “There’s a big difference in our approach,” says Stoltz. “We work very fast in Porter Batiste Stoltz, with the grooves coming first and finding topics to sing about later. There’s more intuition and less thinking, which makes it really fun.”

While their debut album offered funk, groove, fusion, rock, hyphenated style freakout, the new album, says Porter, promises to feature more focus and less wild-eyed indulgence. “We’ve taken a real step forward in the groove and we learned some things from the first record that’s made this next one really special.”
