The great state of Florida has its own blues roots; an imaginative blues interpretation that has both the flair of northern swing and the tonkiness of the south. It makes for a unique sound difficult to describe without using the words; THE… NOUVEAUX… and… HONKIES. Hailing from the tiny Port Salerno, a commercial fishing town south of Port St. Lucie. The Nouveaux Honkies have stormed on the blues music scene and since 2006 have recorded two albums, and blazed a trail of high energy shows that have left the south buzzing.

And that show, usually billed simply as blues, explodes with powerful vocals, blistering guitars and a violin that frequently leaves jaws on the floor. The Nouveaux Honkies is not your typical blues band. They are musical mayhem concealed by a smooth delivery. They are tattoos under an evening dress. They are a bandwagoned sound what will leave you cheering and speechless at the same time.

The Nouveaux Honkies will bring their exhilarating show to Pineapple Willy’s Pier Bar October the 9th.

There are many reasons Tootsie’s has climbed higher and higher towards the top of the Panama City Beach best nightlife list. One of the first things you’ll notice as you walk in is that the place exudes friendliness – there’s no pretentiousness, no attitude, just a down-home, what you see is what you get vibe. Band members are totally in sync with each other and allow for plenty of audience interaction, including taking requests and asking everyone to sing along. It’s a good time for all, and there’s nowhere else like it in the area.

Tootsie’s is more than just a hot nightspot. Opening at 11:00 am daily, the music actually begins early, with a live performer playing throughout the day. Families can stop by and enjoy some great food and a cool drink or friends can pop in for after work cocktails and bar snacks – the music doesn’t stop. Tootsie’s really comes alive at night, but it’s also a wonderful and convenient stop during the day, especially if you are already indulging in some Pier Park retail therapy. If you are a fan of country music, or even if you’re not, you should definitely check Tootsie’s out. (I grew up in England where country music is non-existent, and I love Tootsie’s). It’s one of the best things to ever happen to Panama City Beach nightlife, and it’s here to stay. Bonus – you never know who you might see!

Ben Robinson Band - At thirteen years old Ben Robinson was “discovered” in a small blues club in southeast Georgia holding his own with players three to four times his age. Fusing a riveting blend of soulful blues and rock, Ben’s guitar talent is considered by his peers to be so extraordinary, Jeffrey Gaskill, tour director, Rolling Stones and Elton John, said “The future of blues rock is in good hands with Ben.”

This uber-talented star’s band, bearing his name, takes the glory days of Van Morrison and infuses it with an energetic dose of the grit of Lenny Kravitz at his best. His abilities go far beyond the instrument as he writes and arranges his music as well, giving listeners a true glimpse into the soul of a prodigy.

Ben has appeared on The Late Show with David Letterman, the Big Help-A-Thon With P. Diddy, and Justin Timberlake, the Apollo Theater and this weekend he will be tearing up the stage at Pineapple Willy’s Pier Bar during Thunder Beach and you don’t want to miss it.

The Breeze Kings - The Breeze Kings, the 8 time Atlanta top blues band winner, remains true to their art form; ’50s and ’60s pre-rock rhythms, cutting guitars, fearless bass riffs and enough stage charisma to smooth out stiff clubs. Formed in October 1997 when an Atlanta blues club needed a house band for Thursday nights, four talented local blues players who barely knew each other came together out of a mutual love for classic 50s Chicago style blues. The spark was there, word spread and before long The Breeze Kings, led by harmonica player and singer Carlos “Cool Breeze” Capote, conquered Atlanta.
To date, The Breeze Kings have opened for Bo Diddley, Steve Miller Band, George Thorogood, Atlanta Rhythm Section, Marshall Tucker Band, Buckwheat Zydeco, Saffire, John Hammond, Otis Taylor and have shared the stage with many more regional and national blues acts. Their style, a blend of sizzling Chicago electric blues to raw-and-ready Mississippi Delta and Piedmont blues, has garnered attentive across the world, making this once impromptu band one of the nation’s most acclaimed acts.

Best Drinks: Sharky’s Beach Bar
Do you know what the “Watermelon Crawl” is? If you don’t, you should. Sharky’s, located on Front Beach road, during the day is a relatively quiet seafood restaurant serving up  everything from mahi-mahi, shrimp, scallops, and even fresh Apalachicola Oysters. But when the sun goes down on Panama City Beach, and the live music kicks in, Sharky’s transforms into one of the most exciting bars on the beach and the drinks have a lot to do with it. The best drink, maybe in the entire universe, is the Watermelon drink. Basically, they cut a watermelon in half, hollow that thing out and fill it with enough liquor to take out a NFL football team. By the time you and your buds drink it up, you’ll be doing the Watermelon Crawl for the rest of the night.

Most Flirt-Encouraging: Sandpiper Beacon’s Tiki Bar
Sandpiper Beacon is a popular hotel on Panama City Beach known and loved for many reasons, but none more than its very tropical, highly-stimulating Tiki Bar. This Polynesian style oasis is perfect place to dance, drink and meet someone worth flirting with. In fact, once you descend the planks to a dance floor surrounded by bamboo, palm trees  and the sweet-salty smell of the gulf, you’ll believe you’re are the most desirable person in the place. They’ve got karoake, Lanakilas hula and Samoan fire knife dancers that make you feel like you’re on some tropical island where inhibitions abscond with the ocean. You’ll definitely want to flirt, but it may surprise you how many people will flirt back.

No Nonsense: Ms. Newby’s
Sometimes you just want to go to a bar, have a drink with friends and avoid the crowds and the crazies. While some may be fine with going to a fancy martini bar or having a few drinks with dinner, most people want a real bar. That bar, at least as far as Panama City Beach is concerned, is Ms. Newby’s. What began as a liquor store has, over the years, transformed into PCB’s #1 good-times tavern. Bikers, breakers and locals all hanging out under one roof, that’s Ms. Newby’s. The drinks are hard, the music is good and the people police themselves. That’s about all you could ever ask for in a bar.

Most Exciting: Club Oxygen
New bars and clubs pop up on Panama City Beach all the time. Rarely do they have staying power as they become overwhelmed by the PCB nightlife staples that have drawn crowds for years. If a new bar or club can stay open, you know its legit. One such place that has proven itself to be not only legit, but can stomp with the big boys is Club Oxygen.  Located on Front Beach Road, this indoor/outdoor hotspot is putting a fresh new spin on Panama City Beach nightlife. The music is hot, the place is always packed and the vip lounge is consistently littered with famous people.

Craziest Antics: Coyote Ugly
You’ve seen the movie. You seen the girls dancing on bar tops and crowds screaming mad while some guy gets tequila poured down his throat. Well, while you may think that’s just movie magic, you’ve obviously never been to a real Coyote Ugly. Panama City Beach’s now infamous Coyote Ugly, located on Front Beach Road, is known for throwing down an insane party every night of the week. In fact, everything you saw in the movie is like a Disney version compared to what really happens on Panama City Beach. But don’t say we didn’t warn you; Coyote Ugly is one crazy good time.

Local Favorite: Spinnaker’s Beach Club
When locals want to get out and party and don’t want to be mobbed by the crowds, they head to one spot and that’s Spinnaker’s Beach Club. During the day it’s an amazing restaurant, serving up treats at the Paradise Grill or the beachside Cantina taco & tequila bar. At night it transforms into one of the most exciting club experiences in NW Florida. The Groove Room, The VIP Lounge and the Rock Arena provide enough room to get your dance on, the drinks are inexpensive and powerful and the atmosphere is all about having a good time.

Sportiest: Pineapple Willy’s Pier Bar
There are lots of places on the beach to watch the big game. Only one place lets you watch the big game on 360 degrees worth of HDTV, while serving up Fat Tuesday drinks. That place is Pineapple Willy’s Pier Bar. Known because of the adjacent restaurant, the Pier Bar is a recently opened component that is quietly taking over the sporting community on Panama City Beach. Not only are the all the games crisply displayed on huge televisions, but each table gets its own speaker box to make sure you hear the game you want to hear. While you’re team is crushing its opponent, you get to kick back and have bucket of BBQ ribs right on the gulf.

Biscuit Miller, one of the funkiest bass players around, is on the loose again and fronting his own band “Biscuit Miller and The Mix.” Joined by Jordan Lunardini, Paxton Norris and Myron “Mad Hatter” Robinson, these guys really know how to “get down!”

Biscuit is well known for playing behind Chicago’s legendary Lonnie Brooks and most recently with The Anthony Gomes Band. Biscuit co-wrote “Testify” from the album “Live” which has reached Billboard’s number one album on the Blues charts.

High energy, charismatic band with lots of show. What’s better than a bowlful of soulful, funky Blues stew? A pipin’ hot Biscuit, of course!
